Keyed mode means you visually see all lines on your system. For smaller environments, this is typically setup. For example, Line 1 Line 2, etc..

PBX mode or pooled mode (public branch exchange) is a term used for companies that exceed a certain amount of lines. In small environments, you would dedicate 1 button for each line. When companies get 8-ish lines, all the buttons get used up quickly and the end user is limited for more features. Thus, we move to a pooled or PBX mode. A typicaly environment uses 9 to dial out and they park calls instead of put calls on hold for other users.
